For Professionals

Northstar Problem Gambling Alliance avails a wealth of information to healthcare and addiction professionals with an interest in gambling treatment.

We offer ongoing training and education opportunities as well as the annual Minnesota Problem Gambling Conference, which features opportunities for professional development and the chance to learn about the latest topics in problem gambling.

Education and Training

Professionals interested in our offerings include:

  • Current gambling treatment providers who are working to advance their clinical skills or improve their practice, or who may be working toward some level of certification. NPGA workshops and webinars provide insights into advanced clinical techniques for the treatment of problem gambling.
  • Addiction treatment professionals who want to learn more about problem gambling given its frequent occurrence as a co-existing disorder among their alcohol and drug patients. These counselors may also be interested in learning more about gambling counseling so they can help their clients, and simply need a place to start their gambling education.
  • General health care and social service professionals who wish to better understand the signs of gambling addiction. One of the challenges in the gambling treatment field is identifying those with gambling problems. General health care professionals and social service professionals are in a position to help identify those at risk.

A considerable amount of research on problem gambling is conducted at request of the NPGA. We’re a storehouse of gambling research information and provide links to new studies, articles and publications as we become aware of them.
